American
History The major emphasis will be on the U.S. from Reconstruction through the 21st Century. It will include the study of the world wars form the American perspective, the Roaring 20’s, the Depression of the 30’s, the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, Watergate and life in the 80’s and 90’s. Throughout this study the student will learn how government, economics activity and geography have played an important role in the shaping of our country’s past and present. Junior Achievement With the support of volunteer consultants
from the local business community, the JA Company Program provides basic
economic education for high school student’s 10-12 grades. By
Economics This course will study how people attempt to utilize scare resources to satisfy unlimited wants. Topics studied will include supply and demand, production and productivity, money and financial institutions, economic stability, international trade, and the influence of the government on the free enterprise system. Current Geography Current Geography brings together two vitally important aspects
of the Social Studies curriculum. First, the course will chronicle and interpret
international, national, state and local news events and how they impact on the
course of human affairs. Secondly, by using a regional geographic approach,
students will gain an appreciation for the economic, cultural and political
conditions that exist around the world. World History &
Geography This course approaches the world’s people, places and events from a cultural, economics, geographical, political, and historical perspective. Studies will begin with the Stone Age and progress to current times. During the progress of this course cultures and countries from all continents of the world will be covered. Government This course emphasizes the responsibilities of the citizens in a democracy. The course content includes why and how our government was created, the study of the three branches of the national government, and the examination of state and local government. Students will obtain first hand knowledge of their civil liberties and fundamental freedoms. Michigan History This course deals with Michigan History from the Indian era to the present day. Included will be studies of the first Indian settlements, French period, French and Indian War, American entry, statehood, Civil War, lumbering, and Great Lakes shipping. This course will also deal with Michigan during the Twentieth Century. Special emphasis will be placed on changing agriculture, industrialization and recreation. Psychology This course involves many of the basic introductory concepts of
psychology. Units studied include psychology defined, psychological methods,
human development, biological influences on behavior, understanding personality,
measuring personality, intelligence, classical and operant conditioning,
learning, thinking, creativity, psychological disturbances, and facing
frustration and conflict. Sociology This is an introductory course in the science of sociology.
Instruction will include such areas as group behavior, the individual role in
group-origins, variations, values, and social control of social problems (race,
