PHYSICAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Each student will be required to change clothes EVERY DAY. A change of clothes from what is worn to school into and out of physical education garb allows each student to partake in healthy hygiene practices. This helps keep body odor that is common to the age group to a minimum. The shirt/top and pants/shorts worn to school WILL NOT be worn during PE class. A loose fitting T-shirt (no buttons, please), comfortable athletic style shorts (not cutoffs) or sweatpants are recommended. Court shoes are required for use on the new gymnasium floor (the student may use the same court shoe they wear to other classes). If a student forgets to bring gym clothes for the day, HMS always has clean gym clothes (including court shoes) in various sizes on hand. The student will borrow the school's clothes for that hour and return them to the gym office once class is finished. If failing to bring gym clothes becomes a habit, the student will suffer a reduction in grade (see grading web page), a parent will be contacted, and/or the student will be referred to the counselor or principal. Taking a shower after physical education class is recommended, but not required. Students desiring to shower will need to bring their own soap, shampoo and towel and will be excused early from class upon request. If a shower is not taken, each student should take it upon themselves to use a good deodorant while changing back into school clothes. Participation each day is MANDATORY unless the student provides a note signed from the parent or physician indicating that the student should not participate for that day. Exceptions are rarely made. If a student has a note for several days, they may be required to complete a written packet to justify their grade. Students should be aware of the safety of themselves and others at all times. Purposeful injury causing or wreckless behavior will be dealt with severely. Following the instructions of the teacher is paramount to the individual getting the most out of the physical education setting. Every effort will be made to provide a fun learning/working atmosphere as well as take into account individual abilities and other differences. Other requirements/recommendations will be discussed with the students on the first day of the trimester. |
