PHYSICAL EDUCATION

The physical education department at Harrison Middle School tries to blend traditional physical education activities with those that will stay with the student well into adulthood.

Darts is one of the many individual lifetime activites at HMS.

Students will learn and play team games such as basketball, volleyball and hockey but will also sample lifelong activities such as darts, horseshoes, dance, and bowling (to name a few).

The three, four and five step approaches are taught during the bowling unit at HMS.

A trimester long fitness unit is also a feature for HMS PE as each student will be taught and will practice stretching, endurance running and/or sprinting running every day.  Benefits of the fitness unit (injury reduction, strength gains, endurance gains, stress reduction, concentration increase) will be explained in terms the student will understand.  Read how running can make you healthier.

Timed jogging, sprinting and stretching are an important part of the physical education program at HMS.

Although each trimester will have slight differences in scheduled activities, the units have been separated into grades:

8th Grade:  badminton, individual sports (darts, frisbee golf, horseshoes, PONY), basketball, volleyball, basesports (kickball, whiffleball), and hockey.

7th Grade: bowling, individual sports (darts, horseshoes, PONY, tetherball), square and social dance, basketball, track and field, soccer and frisbee football.
