Welcome to Kindergarten !

Welcome to kindergarten! It is the beginning of an exciting journey. Parent support is very important every step of the way. Please be positive about school and support your child by taking an active role in school activities.

We will be very active in our classroom. Children should be comfortably dressed in clean but washable clothes, as we will be using paint, markers, playdough, scissors, sand and water and playing on the playground. Children who may have accidents should bring a change of clothes to leave at school.

*Tennis shoes are needed for gym on Monday and Thursday.

*Children need to bring a backpack or book bag everyday.

Children mature at different rates. Not all children are at the same stage of development when they turn 5 years old. It is important for children to be given the time they need to develop normally and do things at their own level.

Kindergarten concepts begin very simply. For example, the concept of "Observable changes on the earth" ( such as weather, seasons, day and night), seems simple to adults. Yet, for our Kindergartners it will lay important foundations for future understanding of energy, patterns of change, etc. Our goal is to foster the natural curiosity, provide experiences or activities to build concepts, and have fun doing it. Children learn through experimenting and social interaction, often called play. Concepts are like bridges that need to be built to connect to a higher level.

In the Kindergarten classroom, the learners prefer concrete, hands on or the tactile/kinesthetic style of learning most of the time. They enjoy interacting with other children and manipulating objects. We try to use hands-on activities to meet the curriculum standards as much as possible. Learning centers provide the opportunity for children with mixed learning abilities, cultural backgrounds, strengths and language proficiencies to work and learn according to individual interests and abilities.

Higher Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies and Science standards are now taught in Kindergarten.  It's not just milk, cookies and a rest anymore!
