Over the past three years the staff at Harrison High School has embraced the Character Counts! program. Character Counts! is a nationally recognized character education program founded bythe Josephson Institue of Ethics based in Los Angeles, California. The main intent of this program is to help young adults develop a personal moral character that reflects integrity, responsibility and compassion.

The staff at our high school makes every attempt to model the Six Pillars of Character and has embedded the pillars of character into the everyday operation of the school and discipline process.  Additionlly, a team of staff members took part in formal Character Counts! training in Arlington Heights, Illinois in March of 2006.  Their training was funded by a federal Safe and Drug Free Schools grant.  Character Counts! training is tentatively scheduled for the entire high school teaching staff in August of 2006.

The Six Pillars of Character are:

Trustworthiness

Respect

Responsibility

Fairness

Caring

Citizenship
