Writing
We will work on the last three traits of writing.  They are:  voice, sentence fluency and conventions.  We continue to notebook and we will practice our peer response this week.

Math

This week we will begin our unit on Place Value.

Social Studies
The Harrison Brochure is the focus this week.  Each student will be required to produce a brochure on the Natural Resources, Top 3 places to eat, and 5 reasons why someone should visit Harrison, Michigan.

Spelling

Each Monday, the students bring home a list of words for spelling for the week.  They also have homework that goes with their spelling.  This homework is to help them get in the habit of doing homework and comes with a bit of responsibility.  The children will work in small groups during spelling and also work in some sort of center that helps them practice their words.  Each student has a different list of words based on their ability and level at which they spell.

Stay Tuned:
Science begins next week.

A parent night is scheduled in October regarding the Social Studies Curriculum for 3rd Grade.  Information regarding a scheduled Mackinac trip will be available at this meeting as well.

Important Dates:
October 3rd:  Homecoming - Wear Blue and Gol

Freerice.com

The students found out about a wonderful vocabulary building website called freerice.com.  For each word they identify correctly, so many grains of rice go to the UN to help with world hunger.  It is a great way to build up vocab., and help at the same time.  Plus, it is fun!
