Parent Night in Review

We would like to thank all the parents who came to parent night on Wednesday, September 17. The purpose of parent night was to share information, ask questions, and network with other parents. Mrs. U, our wonderful secretary, talked about office procedures, Mrs. Andera, our Title I Consultant discussed the upcoming MEAP Test and how to get extra help for children struggling with their work. We even had Mr. Morton, from First Student serenade us with a song! The highlight of the evening was the fabulous finger foods and desserts that were provided by Chartwells Food Service. Some of the finger foods included stuffed mushrooms, chicken alfredo pizza, fancy fruit and tarts, to name a few! Many lucky parents walked away with gas cards, Glen's cards and mum plants thanks to the raffle drawing. The turnout was great! We hope to have an even bigger crowd next year. Thanks again!!

Official Student Count Day

Wednesday, September 24th is our Official Student Count Day. It is extremely important that all students attend school. If your child is absent we will need a signed note from the parent or guardian explaining the childs absence from school. Thank you for your cooperation.

FREE BOOKS!

Did you know that you can get a free book delivered to your preschooler every month until they are 5? A program called Dolly Parton's Imagination Library does just that. The program is sponsored by the Clare Gladwin Regional Education Service District (CGRESD). By all accounts it is a great program and absolutely free. If you are interested in signing up for this, please call Hillside's office or the CGRESD (386-3851).

School Pictures

Tuesday, September 23 is picture day. Picture evelopes were sent home last Friday. All students will have their picture taken. If you are puchasing pictures, please return the completed picture envelope on Monday with check or cash. We all look forward to this day so we can see all the kids looking so spiffy! Call if you have any questions.

Reminder -The School Dentist is Coming on Thursday, September 25 and Friday, September 26.

A Newspaper is Born

Recently, John Turner II and Allison Lipovsky, both 6th grade students, came to the principal's office to propose starting a newspaper. With the help of Miss Dawn, they thoroughly went over all the details and communicated their vision of what Hillside's newspaper could look like. Well, the vision is becoming a reality! John and Allison have hired a staff and have even had their first meeting. The newspaper staff is as follows:

John Turner II - Editor, Comics; Allison Lipovsky - Editor, Sports; Cody Forster - Comics; Steven Walch - comics, Brainteasers; Phillip Hale - 4th Grade Reporter; Danielle Cullen - 3rd Grade Reporter; Gage Schutz - 6th Grade Reporter; Alyson Robinson - Poetry; Anaca Boulton - Copier; Alex Latta - Celebrations, Birthdays; Christine Mason - Typist, Miss Dawn - Advisor; Mrs. Weaver - Advisor. MORE LATER!

BULLY FREE ZONE!

We would like to thank all of the students that have come forward to report bullying incidents. The staff at Hillside is very proud of them. We know that it is not an easy thing to do. It really helps us so that we can address the problem as quickly as possible. With all of us working together, we can make Hillside safe for every single student!
