What's Going On In Class

Pen Pals- Last week our class received pen pal letters and good luck cards(for the MEAP test) from students in Ms. Scare's 1st grade class. We are excited about our new friends and will send them letters back this week. Be sure to ask your child about their new pen pal.

MEAP- Tuesday - Math; Thursday - English Language Arts part 1

Reading-  Students will continue to practice building stamina while reading, practice patrner reading and we will examine science fiction books. Some students will continue to read The Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth George Speare at the listening center.

Writing- This week we will; continue to work on subjects and predicates, write our pen pals, alliteration in poetry(Friday), finish a paragraph about a friend and continue to build writing stamina. Students will also continue to write every other day in their reflection journal.

Spelling- This week students will be assigned specific words that they need more practice with. Students will also choose two extra words that they would like to practice along with the eight assigned words. Students will be placed into small groups with other students who also need to practice that specific skill. There will be activites throughout the week in class to help students practice along with a practice test on Wednesday and a final test on Friday. On Monday your child should bring home their words that are on their spelling homework paper with daily assignments to help them practice at home.

Because of the MEAP test, there will be no social studies, math or science on Tuesday and Thursday!

Social Studies- On Monday we will cover Columbus Day and on Friday we will review checks and balances and go over the Three Fifths Compromise.

Science with Mrs. Thelen- Our class will continue to learn about the scientific process through experiments and using an observation journal.
