What's Going On In Class
New Books Are In- Our historic fiction books we created arrived last week. We were very excited to receive them! Reading- We will continue to work on strategies that will help us become better readers like OWL, profundity, good fit books and fluency. Students will also focus on the vacabulary of a mystery book. They will also read a mystery book from the Woodlands Mysteries series. We will listen to a new book, Frindle at the listening center. Writing- This week, will also continue to work on multi-syllabel words. We will also continue writing a mystery story and complete word ladders. During writing workshop, we will work on persuasive writing. As always students will write in their reflection journal and work on other strategies that will help us become better writers. Word Work/Spelling- This week we will focus on contractions and how the /e/ or /i/ at the end of the word is usually spelled y. There will be homework on Tuesday that is due on Thursday. Social Studies- This week we will study Colonial Williamsburg. We will explore different parts of Williamsbug including; a plantation and Burton Parish Church. There is a test on Thursday. Math- This week we will continue to work on adding and subtracting fractions, as well as fractions in simplest form, improper fractions and mixed numbers. There is homework on Wednesday that is due on Friday. Science- We will continue our unit on the Earth and moon. We will focus on why we have day and night and why do we have seasons. Community Collaboration- All students are working on either comprehension, fluency or phonics. This is everyday from 2:40-3:10. Please if possible, do not pick your child up before this time. This time is very important to your child's success in reading and writing. Be sure to ask your child what they are learning about daily. |
